FAQ’s

  • To file your personal income tax return, you’ll need T4 slips (employment income), T5 slips (investment income), RRSP contribution receipts, and any other relevant tax slips. You should also gather receipts for deductions or credits, such as medical expenses, charitable donations, and childcare costs.

  • The deadline to file your personal income tax return is April 30th each year. If you or your spouse/common-law partner are self-employed, the deadline to file is June 15th, but any balance owing is still due by April 30th.

  • If you file your return electronically, you can typically expect your refund within two weeks. If you file a paper return, it may take up to eight weeks to receive your refund. Direct deposit can speed up the process.

  • Yes, you can claim medical expenses on your tax return if they exceed the lesser of 3% of your net income or a fixed threshold amount set by the CRA. Eligible expenses include prescriptions, dental work, and certain medical treatments. If you are not sure if it is something you can claim, just ask us. Be sure to keep all receipts and documentation.

  • If you miss the filing deadline, you may face penalties and interest on any balance owing. The penalty is 5% of the unpaid amount, plus 1% for each full month your return is late, up to a maximum of 12 months. It’s important to file on time, even if you can’t pay the full amount right away.
